Fiddleheads, Swaps and Yard sales (+ a prize for an observant reader)

May 15, 2025

I saw my first fiddleheads at the Tata Farmers’ Market this past weekend, and Shelley LeFresne was kind enough to share this photo from her travels.

Welcome!

I am having a lot of fun with this - thank you to everyone who has shared their events, news ‘nuggets’ and feedback. I am also thrilled to have more advertisers joining us for the print edition of The Nuggets - I mailed one last week and hope to have the next one out in July.

This week I have been seeing a lot of rhubarb recipes online - do you have a favorite recipe to share? This is a busy time of year in our household, so stewed rhubarb with Bird’s custard might be as far as I get this year, but I can dream ;)

Race to 1000 - We’re at 758 subscribers! Each time we add 100 subscribers, we will have a draw for a prize from a local business. All subscribers will be entered in the draw, and if you have referred someone by forwarding this email and them subscribing, you will receive a bonus ballot. Please share :)

A Few Nuggets … ICYMI

Some of the members of the Sunrise Quilt Guild gathered at Tatamagouche Centre for an Open House. Behind them is the king-sized quilt they are raffling off this year. The draw will take place Dec 3 2025 just in time for some lucky person to keep or gift for Christmas. The money raised helps pay for teachers, classes and our quilting spaces

  • Wentworth Learning Centre’s Online Baked Goods Auction raised over $1450 towards the construction costs of their new infant centre. I can attest that the carrot cake was incredible! Well done to everyone who baked, bid and helped make it happen.

  • 596 Phoenix Air Cadets did a litter cleanup from Home Hardware to Brule Church. They collected 19 bags of garbage and 6 cans of recyclables. Incredible job, kudos to you all!

  • The Fraser is once again hosting a ‘Pre-Loved Art Sale on June 13, 14, 15 from 10am-5pm. Donations may be dropped off to The Fraser May 16-19 from 10-5pm, or during open hours of Thursday - Sunday 10am-5pm thereafter. For information, please call 782-990-0290

  • Malagash Heritage Museum has joined the weekly Halftime 50/50 and they believe that they are the only local museum to have done so

  • Kermit The Frog turned 70

  • For anyone with reams of photos of their pets, PetValu is running a ‘Casting Call’ for a chance to be listed in their 2026 calendar celebrating pets across Canada, with prizes just for entering. Do I dare ask you to send me your favourite pet photo? What the heck - please email your #1 pick (one per subscriber please), and I will draw one at random for a prize from a local business. I may share a few :)
