Happy Shrove Tuesday/Lunar New Year

February 17, 2026

The Lunar New Year starts today, February 17, and ushers in the Year of the Horse! More specifically, it’s the year of the Fire Horse, which only happens every 60 years! Almanac.com/content/chinese-new-year-chinese-zodiac

Welcome!

Happy Shrove Tuesday & Happy Lunar New Year! We’re looking forward to making our annual trek to Sharon United Church’s Pancake Supper tonight, hopefully we will see you there!

Congratulations to everyone involved in the Wayne Waugh Memorial Hockey Tournament - great to see the Village so busy on a long weekend! Also seeing lots of smiling faces from a variety of events that form part of the North Shore Winter Carnival - check out the events listing at the bottom of this email, or check their Facebook page for a more complete list. If you haven’t already, please get your entries for the Colouring contest in this week - you can drop them off at TriCounty Ford or email a photo to me. You can find the colouring contest on the back of the printed issue that went out last week :)

Speaking of the Winter Carnival, it’s incredible how a small typo in the printed version of The Nuggets extended the range of the events by 160km … yes, I do know that it’s TIDNISH, but somehow managed to print ‘Tignish’. My apologies. I figured it out after I had 6,000 copies printed. Now it’s your turn, what’s a memorable mistake you’ve made? Email me with your story - I will donate $5/story to the Tidnish Cross Roads Community Assn (up to $100) and will do a random draw for a $25 gift certificate.

Race to 1000 - We did it! - we’re at 1,025 subscribers, thank you all for your support!
